Singing in Shifnal
since 1957.
From a small group of men singing in a Shifnal pub to over thirty voices performing across Shropshire.
- 1957
Founded in Shifnal at the White Hart.
A group of men got together to sing in the White Hart Pub. What began as a pub singalong grew, year by year, into something more.
- Today
Over thirty voices singing across Shropshire.
Men of all ages and backgrounds, four close-knit voice parts, and one warm sound that fills churches, halls and concert venues. Rehearsals every Thursday at Idsall School, all year round.
- Community
Concerts for charities, causes and community.
Singing has always come paired with giving back. Our concerts regularly raise funds for local and national charities (Hope House Children's Hospices among many others), and we turn out for community events, civic services and remembrance occasions across the area. As a registered charity (No. 1126070), the donations and ticket money we take goes straight back into the music and the causes our concerts support.
- The next chapter
New singers, new music, new bookings.
Our active list runs to over 132 songs, from soaring Welsh hymns to West End showstoppers, with new pieces added all the time. Currently led by Director of Music Jordan W. McFarlane (DipABRSM, MISM) with Royal Academy of Music–trained accompanist Corinne Littlehales. New members welcome at any time.
From a pub to the concert stage.
The choir was formed in 1957, when a group of men got together to sing in the White Hart Pub in the heart of Shifnal. What began as a pub singalong grew, year by year, into something more: regular rehearsals, public concerts, and a place in the musical life of east Shropshire that's lasted ever since.
The pub still plays its part. Most Thursdays a few of us head for an optional drink afterwards, usually the White Hart, sometimes another Shifnal pub if there's a quiz on.
Today, more than thirty men of all ages and backgrounds make up the choir. We've sung in churches, halls and concert venues across Shropshire and beyond, often joining forces with neighbouring choirs or welcoming guest soloists for joint programmes.
Our working list runs to over 132 songs. Welsh hymns, classical and sacred pieces, songs from the West End and Broadway, pop and rock arrangements, sea shanties, folk tunes and spirituals. We're always learning new pieces for upcoming concerts, and shaping each programme to fit the occasion.
